How We Do Summer in Annapolis: A Local Guide to Easy Days, Good Food, and Waterfront Nights
How We Do Summer in Annapolis
A local guide to easy days, good food, waterfront nights, and the little details that make summer around Annapolis feel less stressful and a lot more fun.
Summer here is better when you know the local shortcuts.
Summer in Annapolis has its own rhythm. Longer evenings. Dinner outside. Friends visiting for the weekend. A concert by the water. A walk through downtown after the heat breaks. And usually, someone asking the same question we hear all season: What should we do?
We put together our 2026 Annapolis Summer Guide to make that question a little easier to answer. It is not meant to be a giant list of every possible thing happening in town. It is more like what we would text a friend who asked for a good local plan.
Inside, you will find a mix of favorite patios, easy summer itineraries, local events, family-friendly ideas, Eastport stops, downtown tips, and the practical stuff that can make or break a day out, like where to start, when to go, what to bring, and how to avoid turning parking into the main event.
Want the full flipbook?
The full guide includes local picks, event details, outdoor dining ideas, a summer bucket list, and a few easy plans for guests, kids, rainy days, and low-key evenings.
The classic Annapolis day
This is the simple, no-fuss plan we would give someone who wants the full downtown feeling in one day, especially if they have out-of-town guests or family visiting for the weekend.
Coffee, State Circle, and Maryland Avenue
Start early, especially if your guests have never seen the State House or the Naval Academy gates. Downtown is easier before everyone else has the same idea.
Main Street and City Dock
Browse instead of rushing. Let City Dock do what City Dock does: boats, people-watching, and a little chaos in the best way.
Water Taxi or harbor cruise
Seeing Annapolis from the water changes the whole day. It is an easy way to make a normal outing feel like a summer memory.
Dinner outside
Choose a patio, a waterfront table, or Dinner Under the Stars on West Street if it is a Wednesday. Leave room for a walk by the harbor after.
JHG tip: Go earlier than feels necessary. Downtown Annapolis is more fun before parking, heat, and crowds start making decisions for you.
Easy summer plans we actually recommend
Some days call for a plan. Some days call for picking one good thing and not overthinking it. Here are a few easy options that work for real life.
The family day
Start at Quiet Waters Park for trails, playgrounds, and room to move. Keep lunch casual, then do ice cream downtown if everyone still has energy.
The out-of-town guest day
Naval Academy tour, Maryland State House, City Dock, Water Taxi to Eastport, then dinner on or near the water. It gives visitors the Annapolis they came for without making the day feel staged.
The rainy day save
Historic Annapolis stops, shops on Main Street and Maryland Avenue, a long lunch, then coffee or ice cream. Rain is not a dealbreaker downtown. It just changes the pace.
The low-key evening
Pick one thing: Tides & Tunes, Dinner Under the Stars, a sunset walk in Eastport, or a late dinner outside. The best summer nights here usually are not overplanned.
Where to eat outside around Annapolis
There are a lot of good places to eat in and around Annapolis, but the best choice depends on the night. Waterfront view, easy parking, kids who need to wiggle, a date night, out-of-town guests who want crab cakes, those are all different plans.
Waterfront dinner
- Carrol's Creek
- Severn Inn
- Chart House
- Blackwall Hitch rooftop
- Choptank
- Cantler's Riverside Inn
- The Point
Casual local staples
- Boatyard Bar & Grill
- Davis' Pub
- Dock Street
- Middleton Tavern
- McGarvey's
- Forward Brewing
Date night
- Preserve
- Leo Annapolis
- Flamant
- Level Small Plates Lounge
- Osteria 177
- SeaSalt
With kids
- Iron Rooster
- Boatyard
- Forward Brewing
- Market House
- Timber Pizza
JHG tip: If the view matters, call ahead. If parking matters, go earlier. If everyone is already tired, pick the easiest good option and call that a win.
Local staples worth saving
These are the quick hits people actually ask for: coffee, ice cream, small gifts, and a good orange crush.
Coffee and a walk
Ceremony Coffee, Brown Mustache Coffee, Rise Up, or Bakers & Co. for pastries and a slower start.
Ice cream after dinner
Storm Bros, Always Ice Cream, and Kilwins are all easy summer stops. Get it after the walk, not before. Melting waits for no one.
Something local
Maryland Avenue shops, Main Street boutiques, local art at First Sunday, or anything with a crab on it, because apparently, we have committed to the bit.
Orange Crush Energy
Dock Street, Boatyard, Middleton Tavern, and McGarvey's are all easy places to start. Ask what is fresh. A crush should taste like someone just made it, because they did.
Events to put on the calendar
Event schedules can change, especially with the weather, so check with the organizer before you head out. But these are a few summer anchors that make Annapolis feel like Annapolis.
Dinner Under the Stars
Wednesdays, May 20 through September 30, 2026. Historic West Street turns into an open-air dining room with music, dinner, and people who are very committed to a summer night out.
Tides & Tunes
Thursdays, June 11 through August 20, 2026, from 7 to 9 PM at the Annapolis Maritime Museum. Bring a chair or blanket and plan ahead for parking.
First Sunday Arts Festival
First Sundays, May through November, 11 AM to 5 PM. West Street and Calvert Street close for artists, makers, food, live music, and cafe dining.
Anne Arundel County Farmers Market
Spring, summer, and autumn hours are Saturdays from 7 AM to noon and Sundays from 9 AM to noon. Go early for produce, flowers, baked goods, and the feeling of having your life together.
Concerts, fireworks, and the big summer nights
A few plans are worth building the evening around. Quiet Waters Park concerts are a favorite for a relaxed, family-friendly night outdoors, and July 4 in Annapolis is one of those classic downtown evenings when planning ahead really does matter.
Quiet Waters Park Summer Concert Series
The summer concert series at Quiet Waters Park runs on Saturdays in July and August, with free park entry for concerts. Bring blankets or lawn chairs, a picnic dinner, or dessert.
July 4 in Annapolis
In 2026, Annapolis marks 250 years of Independence with a downtown parade and fireworks over Spa Creek. The parade is scheduled for 6:30 PM and fireworks are scheduled for approximately 9:15 PM.
JHG tip: For big event nights, make dinner the early part of the plan. Pack water and patience. Choose a meeting spot before everyone loses cell service and good judgment.
A little beyond downtown
Annapolis is the center of the summer story, but the surrounding communities are part of why people love living here. Each one has its own rhythm.
Severna Park
B&A Trail walks or bike rides, Kinder Farm Park, and local neighborhood concerts give Severna Park its own summer feel.
Arnold and Broadneck
Broadneck Park, Magothy River pockets, and Sandy Point nearby when you want beach energy without crossing the bridge.
Davidsonville
Rural drives, farm stands, garden centers, and the slower side of Anne Arundel County. Good for anyone who loves Annapolis access but wants a little more space.
Edgewater and Mayo
Historic London Town, South River views, and easy outdoor days. A nice change of scene when downtown feels too busy.
Annapolis summer bucket list
Save it, screenshot it, send it to the group chat. Not everything needs to be fancy. Half the charm of summer here is picking one good thing and giving it enough time.

- Take the Water Taxi to Eastport.
- Do Dinner Under the Stars on West Street.
- Catch Tides & Tunes at the Maritime Museum.
- Visit First Sunday Arts Festival.
- Go to the farmers market.
- Eat crabs outside and do not apologize for the mess.
- Walk Quiet Waters before sunset.
- Get ice cream after dinner downtown.
- Bring guests to the Naval Academy and City Dock.

- Spend one morning at Sandy Point before the heat wins.
Know before you go
The unglamorous details are usually what make a summer outing feel easy.
Parking
Use a garage when you can. Hillman, Knighton, Gott's, and Park Place are common downtown options. Check the City parking page for current rules, vendors, and garage details.
Getting around
The City points visitors to the Annapolis Current free trolley. The Water Taxi is operated by Watermark and serves Spa Creek and Back Creek.
Bring this
Sunscreen, water, bug spray, a light layer for waterfront evenings, and chairs or a blanket for concerts.
Timing
Go downtown before lunch or after dinner. Call ahead if the patio view matters. For concerts, arrive early enough that parking does not become the main event.
